Street Face

From 1980-85, I lived in Allentown, Pennsylvania, documenting the character of the community. The work became something of a social archaeology. The city presented as a cultural, industrial and architectural time capsule. The face of the city in the early eighties, its facades and public spaces, told a story of a rich past and uncertain future. Habitually a black and white photographer, I was drawn to the broad, flat, monochromatic color planes featured by Allentown’s architecture. The images in Street Face represent work from 1981-1983.
